Cubans offer drums to Yemayá at sea in the waters of Miami: "A gift for her."

Cubans in Miami paid tribute to Yemayá at sea during Mother's Day, blending music and spirituality. The event showcased the cultural and religious connection of the Cuban diaspora.

A group of Cubans in Miami held a heartfelt tribute to Yemayá, the goddess of the sea in the Yoruba religion, aboard a small yacht in the open sea. The religious ceremony took place on Mother's Day, in the waters off South Florida, as a special offering to the African deity.

In a video shared on the social media platform TikTok by the user @elbombydelmundoire, several devotees can be seen performing a drum ritual in honor of Yemayá, accompanied by chants and batá drums.

Aboard the vessel, the participants tossed white flowers into the sea and placed a doll dressed in white, symbolizing the orisha, while chanting prayers and performing ceremonial rhythms.

"A gift for her," wrote the person in charge of uploading the video of the ceremony, highlighting the spirituality and respect that surrounded the event, which brought together music, faith, and the sea in an intimate and powerful tribute.

The celebration, although not part of the official calendar of Afro-Cuban religions, coincided with a significant date for many families: Mother's Day.

Yemayá, regarded as the mother of all orishas and protector of the sea, is one of the most venerated deities in Santería and other expressions of Afro-Cuban religion, both in Cuba and in the diaspora.

The worship acts dedicated to Yemayá in Miami have gained momentum in recent years, reflecting the persistence of religious traditions among Cuban émigrés, who find in these rituals a way to connect with their cultural and spiritual roots.
