Cultural authorities in the municipality of Cotorro visited Norka Méndez following the recent complaint posted on social media.

"It is improving quite well. This morning, the new Culture Director of the municipality of Cotorro visited her for a good while and brought her some fruits, which she really needs. We are feeling more at ease now because the municipality says it will collaborate in everything they can," reported the art director Luis Lacosta

A month ago, the 86-year-old woman suffered a domestic fall that caused her to lose all her teeth and left her with facial numbness.

"Friends of Norka Méndez, I just spoke with her; she is sleeping well, recovering satisfactorily from the domestic accident, and eating daily. She has asked me to express her gratitude to all of you for your concern for her," he specified in another post.

A heartbreaking image of Norka, with a battered face, caused concern on social media. Cuban actor Antonio Arroyo published a message requesting help and set up a bank account for those who wish to contribute with donations to help cover medical expenses, transportation, and basic needs: 9224-9598-7933-5477.

Norka was, for decades, synonymous with elegance and distinction. Her image was immortalized by the legendary photographer Alberto Korda, who was also her husband and with whom she had two daughters.

Together, they formed one of the most iconic duos in the Cuban fashion world during the 1950s and 60s.

Her career took her to Paris, where she modeled for houses like Christian Dior and showcased jewelry from the most prestigious brands in Europe.

At the height of his career, he shared the stage with figures like Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando. However, today he faces old age in a state of extreme vulnerability.

"I know that some neighbors took her to the hospital on the day of the accident and did what was necessary, but she is alone. I have contacted a friend of hers in Spain to call her and at least offer her some comfort," said Arroyo.

Norka has been honored in recent years, such as in 2019 when the Cuban Art Factory paid tribute to her cultural legacy.

Even a U.S. university invited her a few years ago to pose again, in a gesture that briefly revived her professional glory.

However, those isolated actions contrast with the daily neglect experienced.

In previous interviews, Norka ironically acknowledged her situation: "I don't feel forgotten; I'm a ghost... Every now and then, pictures of me pop up everywhere."
