A new episode of violence has shaken Cuba. A student has been identified as the at a basic secondary school in the municipality of Viñales, in the province of Pinar del Río.
The tragic event occurred at Escuela Secundaria 27 de Noviembre, located in Puerto Esperanza, as confirmed by a source to CiberCuba.
"Here in Puerto Esperanza, Viñales, Pinar del Río, a teacher from a secondary school named 27 de Noviembre has just been murdered by a 9th-grade student. After the teacher strongly reprimanded the student in front of his classmates and hit him, the student went home, grabbed a pointed object, and the teacher, who was in the office handling paperwork, received several stab wounds. The first was to the head, which killed him, followed by several in the chest. The student ran away, and the teacher was found bleeding out."
The person who provided this information requested to remain anonymous for fear of reprisals, but assured that they are a resident of the area.
This testimony aligns with posts circulating on social media since Monday, such as that of Cuban singer Saúl Manuel Suárez Castro, who resides in Hialeah, Miami, and was the first to publicly share the event through his Facebook profile.
Allegedly: A short while ago, a 14-year-old student killed his 'teacher or administrative worker' Adalvi Sosa at the 27 de Noviembre Secondary School in Puerto Esperanza, Pinar del Río. The worker reprimanded him, and the teenager stabbed him twice, once in the chest and once in the forehead. Unfortunately, he did not make it to the hospital. The teenager has already been apprehended. The victim was the father of a little girl.
Moreover, the user Leandro Peña Gutiérrez, who apparently was close to the deceased, also confirmed the professor's passing on his Facebook profile, which reinforces the veracity of this tragic event. Peña Gutiérrez expressed his sorrow in a public post where he lamented the loss and offered condolences to the family.
The crime has caused a deep shock in the community of Puerto Esperanza. On social media, several users who knew the deceased have confirmed what happened and expressed their sorrow over the loss of Adalvi Sosa, whom they describe as a beloved and respected person.
A woman wrote in the comments, “This happened at the ESBU 27 de Noviembre located in Puerto Esperanza, Viñales. I don't know the reasons. I am a neighbor of Adalvis, a good father above all, a good son, a good brother, a good neighbor, good at everything. But the sad reality is that no one has the right to take anyone's life. The pain we feel as people who know you is immense. My most sincere condolences to family and friends.”
Although no one justifies what happened, numerous comments on social media suggest that the crime reflects a growing social degradation, exacerbated by the deep economic crisis the country is experiencing.
Daily blackouts, food shortages, a lack of school resources, and the collapse of essential services directly impact the school and family environments of thousands of students and teachers.
Some users have pointed out that violence cannot be understood in isolation, but rather as the result of a system under pressure, where neither adolescents nor teachers have access to psychological support, emotional containment mechanisms, or means to resolve conflicts.
This is compounded by the lack of moral authority of the State and widespread despair, which create an environment where the unthinkable becomes possible.
So far, the Cuban authorities have not issued an official statement. And although testimonies refer to various versions, they do agree that the conflict began with a public reprimand in the classroom, after which the student, in 9th grade, returned armed and attacked the teacher.
The information will be updated as soon as more confirmed details are obtained.
