The Cuban Miguel Ángel López will return to the national team with two individual awards that confirm his remarkable performance in volleyball: he was named Best Attacker both in the Japanese league and in the Asian Club Championship (AVC).

According to JIT, López, who plays for Osaka Bluteon, was named to the ideal team (All-Stars) of the AVC men's club championship, in which his team earned a silver medal after losing in the finals to Al-Rayyan from Qatar in straight sets.

The player from Cienfuegos was the third highest scorer of the tournament with 86 points, the leader in effective attacks with 73 units, and ranked fifth in direct serves (5 aces).

Both finalists —Al-Rayyan and Osaka Bluteon— secured their spots in the 2025 FIVB Club World Championship by winning their respective semifinals.

Recognition in the Japanese league

Before his continental performance, López had already been honored as the Best Attacker in the Japanese league, where he demonstrated his offensive stability and leadership once again, leading Bluteon to win the regular season with 37 victories and only 7 losses.

However, the team did not advance to the final, having fallen in the semifinals against Stings Aichi. Ultimately, the Suntory Sunbirds Osaka claimed the championship.

López, as the captain of the team, will be a key player for the island in the Nations League (VNL), starting June 11, and in the World Championship in the Philippines in September.
