Sofía Vargas, daughter of the Cuban reggaeton artist Alexander Delgado, a member of the duo Gente de Zona, has been honored at her school in the United States for her outstanding effort in mathematics, despite not speaking English when she started the school year.

A few months ago, María Aventín Vargas —the girl's mother— moved with her partner and her daughter from Canada to Orlando, Florida. This new beginning in U.S. territory posed an additional challenge for little Sofía, who had to quickly adapt to a new school system and a completely English-speaking environment.

María shared several posts on Instagram celebrating her daughter’s achievement, who was awarded the “Most Improved Mathematician” diploma for the 2024–2025 school year.

"I am very, very, very proud of you, my love. Despite not speaking any English, you graduated with honors. You are the daughter every mother wishes to have at home," María wrote, moved, alongside several pictures of Sofía with her diploma.

Additionally, the mother publicly thanked Sofia's teacher for her commitment and dedication. "You not only teach; you enlighten and transform lives with your wisdom. I will be eternally grateful for everything you have done, especially for Sofia," she shared in a message filled with gratitude.

The photos show Sofía smiling alongside her mother and her teacher, at what appears to be a school event in Orlando. The American flags in the background highlight the migrant context of the academic achievement.

This recognition is even more valuable considering the adaptation process experienced by the girl, not only in a new country but also with a different language. The absence of mentions of her father in both publications did not go unnoticed among the followers, although María focused her message on her daughter's personal effort and the school support received.
