Tripadvisor published its Annual Summer Travel Index, a report that reveals the most popular international destinations among travelers from the United States for the period between June and August 2025.
The study, based on surveys conducted between March 26 and April 8 with more than 2,800 consumers in six countries, including the United States, was complemented by an analysis of hotel accommodation searches and other lodging options on the Tripadvisor platform.
The results of the research show a clear trend towards rest and beach tourism, while not neglecting cities and cultural experiences. The Caribbean is prominently featured on the list, but Cuba does not appear among the preferred destinations.
The Caribbean in the sights of Americans, but without Cuba
Among the ten most popular destinations, four are located in the Caribbean. The Dominican Republic dominates the market with two areas that continue to stand out for their competitive pricing and quality services: Punta Cana and Cap Cana (the southern area of Punta Cana).
The other two Caribbean destinations favored by Americans are Oranjestad (Aruba) and Cancún in Mexico, although this country also has a tourist hub that stands out on the Pacific: Cabo San Lucas.
These destinations offer idyllic beaches and innovative hotel infrastructure that, according to Tripadvisor, continue to attract American travelers due to their value for money and ease of access with regular flights from various cities in the United States.
Why not Cuba?
The current relationship between Havana and Washington does not favor a surge in American tourism to Cuba, unlike what is happening in neighboring countries such as Mexico or the Dominican Republic, which lead in accessibility and variety of offerings for that market.
Cuba remains absent from the vacation preferences of American tourists, which can be explained by various factors such as travel restrictions imposed by Washington, limited air connectivity, restricted access to international payment methods on the island, as well as deficiencies in hotel and tourist infrastructure compared to other destinations in the region.

This must be added to the energy crisis that is hitting the country with long power outages and the shortage of food, fuel, and various supplies. The travel experience to Cuba leaves much to be desired.
Even Cuban Americans are no longer visiting the island. Data from the National Statistics Office (ONEI) shows that in April 2024, Cuba received 58,831 travelers from the United States. In the same period in 2025, only 48,589 arrived.
