Two motorcyclists injured after being struck by a passenger car in Pinar del Río

Two young people riding a motorcycle were injured when they were struck by a passenger car that did not stop at a STOP sign at an intersection in the city of Pinar del Río this Tuesday, according to witnesses of the accident.

The occupants of the motorcycle were transferred to a hospital "in poor condition," according to preliminary reports on Facebook.

“Just minutes ago, a traumatic and unfortunate traffic accident occurred in the city of Pinar del Río, at the intersection of Frank País and Colón streets, where a TUR traveling on Colón disregarded the stop sign, colliding with a GN 125 motorcycle and dragging it for several meters,” reported Cedry Hayes in the group “Accidentes Automovilísticos en Cuba”.

In another post on the “Ventas Pinar” page, an anonymous user confirmed the incident and inquired about the condition of the injured.

According to testimonies from several individuals, both young men were quite injured, and one of them had a bruise on the head. They were taken to the Abel Santamaría Cuadrado Provincial Hospital for medical attention.

According to unofficial information in the comments, the lives of the injured supposedly are not in danger. A young woman who claimed to have been at the hospital said that “the one from the motorcycle is being operated on in the head and the other has a broken femur,” and she added that the police were still at the scene.

Meanwhile, another young man stated that one of the boys was in the operating room. “He is not in danger of losing his life. It was believed that the injuries were more severe, but they are just orthopedic fractures. You will see that he will come out fine from the operation. God be with him,” he noted, without disclosing the sources of this information.

Several internet users deemed the driver of the vehicle irresponsible and negligent for not respecting the signage that requires a stop at that intersection in the city of Pinar del Río, and they expressed gratitude that the young people emerged alive from the crash. Such traffic violations are highly dangerous and can be fatal for pedestrians, drivers, and passengers.

Last Sunday, a tragic accident claimed the lives of two young recruits who were serving in the Active Military Service (SMA) in the province of Artemisa.

Both died after being hit by a bus, whose driver lost control and crashed into a security booth at the entrance of the Special Development Zone of Mariel (ZEDM). The driver was injured in the collision.

Another traffic accident that occurred last Friday resulted in the instant death of four people and left three in critical condition, after two cars collided at kilometer 277 on the National Highway in Villa Clara province. One of the injured died hours later while receiving medical attention at a hospital.

Between January and April of this year, there were 2,377 traffic accidents registered in Cuba, 150 less than during the same period in 2024, reported the official newspaper Granma this Monday. According to the report, despite the decrease in traffic incidents and injuries, the number of fatalities increased in these events, although the exact figure was not specified.

Colonel Roberto Rodríguez Fernández, head of the Specialized Traffic Authority of the National Police Directorate, indicated that human factors continue to be the main cause in 91% of accidents.
