A 13-year-old girl, reported missing since May 14 in the municipality of Jovellanos, Matanzas, has been found alive and in good health in the province of Mayabeque.

In a post made on May 19 in the Facebook group “Compra y Venta Jovellanos,” the girl's father shared a photo alongside her and wrote: “Please, if anyone has seen this girl, please call this number (…) I am her father and I am desperate.”

Thanks to the report and family support, the authorities of the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) were able to locate the minor. The young girl was transferred to a specialized facility to provide care for girls, boys, and adolescents, where it was confirmed that she was in good physical condition.

During the operation, a woman identified as Sixney Velázquez Berrier was arrested, accused of having taken the minor from her home and not returning her. The citizen will face criminal charges for corruption of minors, according to authorities, and is in custody while the legal process unfolds.

This incident adds to other recent cases of missing minors in Cuba that have generated significant social concern. On May 17th, journalist Iris Mariño from the independent media La Hora de Cuba, reported the discovery of Emelis, a 12-year-old girl who had been missing for over 24 hours in the city of Camagüey.
