Security camera captures knife attack against a police officer in Camagüey

A recording from a security camera installed in the area revealed how the events unfolded.

A recording from a surveillance camera installed in the area where a policewoman was brutally stabbed by a man in the middle of the boulevard in the city of Camagüey on Thursday morning showed how the events unfolded.

In the extended version of the video -just over two minutes long and shared on social media by activist Irma Broek- it shows how the officer, in uniform at the time of the incident, was standing and chatting with another woman, both very engaged and seemingly looking at a cell phone.

Suddenly, a burly man wearing a white sweater appears and stands a few meters away from them. Upon seeing him, without any reaction or a word spoken, the agent prepares to leave the area with her companion and takes a few steps.

The subject first throws a cigarette and then a can of beer that he had in his hand, and just a few seconds later he begins to stab her right on the sidewalk, in an area where many people were nearby, who fled in panic at the scene.

The woman accompanying the police began to try to defend the victim, swinging her umbrella at the aggressor.

Irma Broek has commented that the video would demonstrate that there were no political implications in the aggression.

“I repeat, the incident has absolutely no #political connotation; the couple was separated due to alleged infidelities on the part of the official!”, claimed Broek.

The aforementioned source identified the attacker as Osmanen Pichardo, and specified that he was arrested following a police operation on Calle Medio.

After the events, the man is said to have hidden in a pigeon loft, Broek concluded.

"I don’t understand anything. I’ve known that boy since he was a child. He’s the son of a neighbor, and he was always calm, fighting for his children with his wife. Everyone knows him in San Ramón as a fighter, not for this. I'm at a loss for words!! How sad!," claimed a commenter.

Other internet users criticized that, if this is indeed an attempted feminicide, the authorities have only given importance to the case so far because the victim is a female police officer.

"And the other victims don't matter? She got coverage on the NTV because she is with the PNR. Once again, the people don't matter," complained an internet user.

“I hope that now, in honor of what happened to this woman, a law enforcement agent of the police, the authorities take serious measures against these ill-born individuals because so far, look at all the femicides that have occurred, and I have never seen any authority speak out. No to femicide. Justice for all those women and their families who are victims of these abuses,” commented another.

The incident was labeled as "repudiable" by the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) in a statement that was even read on the news.

According to the official statement released, the attacker acted with "cruelty" and endangered the life of the agent.

The information highlighted the support the victim received from the citizens present at the scene, which, along with the authorities' response, facilitated the swift capture of the aggressor.

"The detainee was taken to the instruction body and will face the full weight of revolutionary justice," the statement concluded.

The journalist Yosmany Mayeta indicated on Instagram that the police would be named "Dayana," and that she received six stab wounds.

In X, even the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero, condemned what happened, which earned him a barrage of criticism due to the prevailing perception that, for the regime, some victims are worth more than others.

As of the closing of this report, uncertainty remains regarding the clinical condition of the assaulted woman.
