“Ed has an excellent track record in restoring law and order and, most importantly, common sense (which, unfortunately, is scarce nowadays). I know Ed will do an excellent job for the State of Florida and our nation,” the leader stated.

Edward Artau, 59 years old, was appointed judge of the Florida Fourth District Court of Appeal by Governor Ron DeSantis in 2020, following the retirement of Judge Carole Taylor.

He officially took office on June 30 of that year, after serving as a circuit judge for the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit since 2014, where he was assigned to the Juvenile Division.

His current term extends until January 2, 2029, and was confirmed in the retention elections of 2022 with 61.5% of the votes.

Before his career as a judge, Artau served as General Counsel for the South Florida Water Management District from 2004 to 2014, and was a partner at the law firm Marks & Artau, PA. He also worked as an attorney at renowned firms such as Proskauer Rose LLP and Hodgson Russ LLP.

Academic training and teaching

Artau is a graduate of Nova Southeastern University (cum laude) and earned his Juris Doctor from Georgetown University, where he served as an editor for the Law Review. Additionally, he has been an adjunct professor of law at St. Thomas University and has received an honorary doctorate from his alma mater.

He has been honored with multiple awards, including the Good Shepherd Award and Recognition for Founders from the Federalist Society, of which he is a founding member in Florida. He also holds the highest professional rating, AV Preeminent, from Martindale-Hubbell.

Within the judicial system, he has held key positions. He was dean of the Florida College of Advanced Judicial Studies, department head at the Florida Judicial College, and has participated in rule committees, operational procedures, and judicial nominations at both the state and appellate levels.

With this nomination, Artau would fill the vacancy of Judge Robert N. Scola Jr., who took on the role of chief judge and reduced his caseload. The confirmation of the appointment will need to go through hearings before the United States Senate Judiciary Committee and a full vote.

Artau is part of a package of five state judges nominated by Trump this week for federal courts in Florida, including Kyle Dudek, Anne-Leigh Gaylord Moe, John Guard, and Jordan Pratt.
