At least two people have died in a traffic accident in Havana

Two people died this Sunday in a traffic accident that occurred during the early morning at the Cojímar roundabout in Havana.

According to the information gathered from the Facebook profile of La Tijera and in the group "ACCIDENTES BUSES & CAMIONES for more experience and fewer victims!", the incident resulted in the death of a woman identified as Ismaray, and a man.

A third person was transferred to a hospital and is in the intensive care unit.

A witness who was returning from work at that moment commented that he saw when the car, a jeep Renegade, skidded and collided with a tree: "It was very impressive, to be honest; shortly after, ambulances, police, and firefighters started to arrive."

Although the causes of the tragedy have not been disclosed, dozens of internet users pointed out that that area of the roundabout lacks lighting and is in terrible condition.

"I passed by at 4:00 am and the car was completely wrecked, there were two ambulances and two patrol cars. It was really bad, I also saw a crashed Lada by the Villa Panamericana," wrote another user, suggesting that another serious accident had occurred in the early hours of the morning.

So far, the authorities have not commented on the accident nor confirmed the deaths of the individuals.

In recent days, a cyclist died after being struck by a car at the intersection of Porvenir and B streets in the Lawton neighborhood. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the accident, leaving the cyclist without assistance in the public area.

According to the regime, 91% of accidents in Cuba are attributed to human factors. The main causes include lack of attention while driving, disregard for right of way, and speeding, which accounts for 21% of fatalities in traffic accidents.

At the end of April, there were 2,377 traffic accidents, a decrease of 150 incidents compared to April 2024.
