The Cuban who on the morning of Tuesday was kidnapped and threatened with a firearm by Chocolate MC recounted the hell he experienced during the hours he was at the mercy of the reggaeton artist.
In recent statements to Telemundo 51, the victim, Daniel Pérez, detailed what happened and also explained why he decided to report Chocolate to the police even though he came out of the ordeal unscathed.
Pérez denied that he had asked Chocolate for a photo, claiming that at the time of the incident he was speaking with his wife via video call in the parking lot of a supermarket to ask her what brand of detergent she was buying.
“He seemed to notice that I had my phone in my hand like this. I was looking at him because he is an artist from my country and I recognized him, even though I’m not a fan of his. He said to me, ‘You’re recording me,’ and I replied, ‘Brother, I’m not recording you; I’m talking to my wife on the phone,’” the young man recounted.
The victim reports that immediately afterward, Chocolate threatened him.
"He put the gun to my chest and told me he was going to take my car for recording him. He said, 'Give me the phone,' and took it from me. Since he didn't find the car keys, he asked me to get in with him and to drive."
From the other side of the phone, Daniel Pérez's partner, unaware of what was happening, texted him: "That man is dangerous, let him go now."
Pérez recounts that Chocolate forced him to drive to various locations in Miami while threatening him.
"I wasn't even talking; I was just thinking about how to get out, how to shake it off. The more he tried to control me, the more he spoke about things in his world, saying things about people... The stress I was under, the helplessness I felt was so overwhelming that I was going to throw him against a pole," the victim recounts.
According to the testimony of Daniel Pérez, during the entire time that Chocolate forced him to move around Miami, he always kept him threatened with the supposed gun, which turned out to be a toy.
"I always had it right here in my hand, he never told me if it was a toy or not. I saw a gun pointing at me right here, white on top, the police knows, it has to be on the cameras. I just looked like this, I saw the finger on the trigger and said, I can't try to take the gun away because if it goes off, I'm going to end up here because of a car and a cellphone," he recounted.
“I am not a materialistic person. So the first thing I thought of was my family, who are the ones who are going to suffer,” he concluded.
Daniel finally came out unscathed, but he is in shock.
Interrogated about the reason why he decided to report, he responded: “I got out fine, but it could happen to a child, to an elderly person, to someone else. It’s a person who doesn’t care about anything.”
"I was simply in the wrong place," he also said about the unfortunate experience.
In the written report of the interview, Daniel Pérez also referred to those who claim that the singer needs psychiatric attention.
“No, brother, no. He doesn’t need mental help. What he needs is to get off drugs. The best place for him is in prison. Because at any moment he’s going to shoot someone,” he asserted.
Chocolate's girlfriend defends him: “He is hurt and needs emotional support.”
Yelena Ramírez, the romantic partner of Chocolate MC, also spoke exclusively with Telemundo 51 to share her perspective on the case.
"He is confused, hurt, and scared. He has faced many betrayals from those close to him. He needs emotional and medical help," he stated.
"No one helped him. Yosvany called, knocked on doors everywhere, and no one helped him. At least, on my part, I'm never going to leave him alone. For me, he definitely needs help; Yosvany is not okay," she concluded.
"I'm not crazy," says Chocolate MC in court
This Thursday, June 5, the reggaeton artist appeared before Judge Mindy S. Glazer in Miami, who determined that he would not be granted bail for violating the conditions of previous release.
In the hearing, Yosvanis Sierra Hernández -the artist's real name- denied before the judge that he is "crazy," and stated that he feels "safer in jail."
"Someone on the street is paying to have me killed, just like they did to El Taiger," he also said.
"I don't want a lawyer; even my lawyer is borrowed. They are trying to sell me as if I am crazy," he assured.
Now, Chocolate MC faces charges of kidnapping and armed robbery, even though the gun was fake.
The case adds to a legal history that includes accusations of domestic violence, drug possession, and alleged conspiracy to murder the supposed killer of El Taiger.
This is the fifth case opened in court in Florida and the ninth arrest in eight years.
