A Cuban resident in the United States shared a touching testimony on TikTok after being laid off from her job following almost eight years of continuous work as a coder.

"Today is officially my first day unemployed. As you can see, my eyes are a bit swollen because I've cried like a little girl," she began saying in the video posted on her account @clau_dani0, where she has received thousands of messages of support.

The young woman explained that she was part of a call in which the company announced the layoffs of about 60 workers, including other coders like herself.

"The first thing I asked was what they based this decision on, and they told me it had nothing to do with performance or seniority in the company, it was simply due to cost-cutting," he lamented.

The company, which was not identified in the video, reportedly closed several clinics as part of the budget cuts, directly impacting the employees.

With a shaky voice, the Cuban woman detailed that she has worked continuously in the United States since she was 17 years old and that this is the first time she has found herself unemployed.

"I had never been fired from a job, never. The only thing that has taken me away from work has been the postpartum period after my two pregnancies," she said.

Despite the difficult times, the young woman displayed resilience and organization in her new phase: “I have already applied to 10 different places. I’m keeping a count to stay organized in this process.”

The video, posted on TikTok, has sparked thousands of comments of solidarity and encouragement, particularly from other Cubans who have found themselves in similar situations abroad.
