With a raw and uncompromising rhetoric, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey threatened on Thursday with death those who plan to participate in protests in Florida.

"If you throw a brick, a Molotov cocktail, or aim a weapon at one of our agents, we will notify your family where to collect your remains. Because we will kill you. Graveyard dead," he said before the cameras.

The statement made during a press conference this Thursday has sparked intense debate at both the state and national levels.

For some, it is a clear message of authority; for others, a threat that borders on incitement to state violence.

Ivey, known for his straightforward style and "zero tolerance" approach, added, "We are not going to play. If you come to create chaos, you will be taking a real risk."

Among the measures warned by the sheriff, immediate arrest of those who block public roads or disobey legal orders stands out; use of force— including canine units— in the event of aggression toward officers, and zero tolerance for those who attempt to surround or attack vehicles: "You might end up under the car," he stated.

The sheriff was accompanied by the state attorney general, James Uthmeier, who supported the warning by highlighting the full enforcement of the state law against riots, enacted by Governor Ron DeSantis following the protests of 2020.

This legislation expands the police powers and toughens penalties for public disorder.

In a recorded message, DeSantis reinforced the state's stance: "Florida is not California. Here, the rule of law is respected."

In the same event, new security measures were announced to protect immigration agents (ICE) in light of an increase in threats and harassment. These measures include the designation of a state liaison with ICE, a rapid response system for cases of doxing or threats, and police surveillance at the agents' homes.

The measures are being presented on the eve of scheduled protests on June 14 under the slogan #NoKings, in opposition to immigration policies promoted by President Donald Trump.

While conservative sectors and defenders of law and order celebrate the sheriff's strong stance, organizations like ACLU and Human Rights Watch have expressed concern over the "militarized" tone of the speech. "The use of lethal force cannot be the state's first response," they stated.
