A young Cuban has sparked reactions on social media after posting a video that shows the desolate state of Avenida 23 in Vedado, right in the heart of Havana, on a Saturday afternoon. What was once one of the busiest thoroughfares in the Cuban capital now appears practically empty.

"This is 23rd Street, and it's Saturday at 6 in the afternoon... empty. There's nothing here," says the young man as he strolls down the once-popular avenue, which in other times buzzed with people, cars, and cultural life. "The Vedado is empty. There are overgrown bushes on one side and the other. This is what remains of 23."

The video was shared on the TikTok account @losfueradrosca, and it shows not only the almost complete absence of pedestrians but also the lack of maintenance on the road, with remnants of plants and branches scattered on the sidewalks.

"In my days, this place was filled with people, especially on weekends. It was chaos, people everywhere, groups of young folks. Cuba is emptying out, there's nothing here. This is insane, unbelievable," the young man adds.

The publication has sparked a broad debate among users discussing the current situation in Havana, characterized by mass migration, the economic crisis, and urban decay, which has affected the vibrancy of traditionally active areas like Vedado.

These types of scenes have become increasingly frequent, reflecting the gradual deterioration of the social fabric in the Cuban capital, where once vibrant streets now seem frozen in time.
