The presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump spoke on the phone for about an hour on Saturday, during which they discussed Israel's attacks against Iran, the war in Ukraine, and the exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine.

On his platform Truth Social, Trump revealed that most of the conversation centered around the escalating tension between Israel and Iran.

He emphasized that both agreed the conflict between Israel and Iran must cease as soon as possible. "He feels, as I do, that this war between Israel and Iran must end, to which I explained that his war must also end," he stated.

The U.S. leader expressed his concern over the Israeli attacks aimed at dismantling Iran's nuclear program and the potential reprisals from Tehran.

Trump also urged his Russian counterpart to take steps towards ending the war in Ukraine, a conflict that began in February 2022.

The call included discussions about the prisoner exchange between the two countries. Both countries carried out a new exchange on the same Saturday, marking a progress in the peace talks that began in Istanbul.

For his part, Putin's foreign affairs advisor, Yuri Ushakov, confirmed that his president informed Trump about his recent conversations with the leaders of Iran and Israel, reiterating Moscow's proposal to find mutually acceptable solutions to the Iranian nuclear issue.

Ushakov emphasized Putin's concern about the potential escalation of the conflict and the threat it would pose to the stability of the entire Middle East region.

According to the official, Putin also expressed his willingness to mediate in the negotiations between the United States and Iran regarding Tehran's nuclear program. He and Trump do not rule out a possible return to negotiations on this nuclear program.

The relationship between Russia and Iran has strengthened during the war in Ukraine, with Tehran providing military support to Moscow.

Putin and Trump also discussed the recent progress in the prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine. "Our president noted that a prisoner of war exchange is taking place, including seriously wounded individuals and prisoners of war under the age of 25," Ushakov said.

Putin took the opportunity to congratulate Putin on his 79th birthday, which coincided with the day of the conversation.

The last time Putin and Trump spoke on the phone was on June 4. That day, they discussed Putin's plans to respond to Ukraine's drone attack on Russian air bases.

Then, Trump shared some details of the conversation on his Truth Social account and mentioned that they also talked about Iran.
