Javier Sotomayor, the legendary Cuban high jumper and current holder of the world record at 2.45 meters, received the Gloria Ibero-American Sports Legend Award during a ceremony held in Madrid, Spain.

With an impressive resume that includes Olympic gold, world and Pan American titles, and a brilliant career since youth categories, the so-called “Prince of the Heights” was the focal point of a night dedicated to sporting excellence.

Regarding the record he has held since July 27, 1993, when he achieved the historic mark in Salamanca, the entrepreneur also commented to the agency Prensa Latina: “I don’t know, I have no idea who or when my world record will be broken, someday.”

Visibly excited, Javier Sotomayor expressed his appreciation for the honor of sharing the award with other sports figures such as Giba, Toni Nadal, and the national teams of Spain and Argentina.

"I feel so privileged... I will keep it among my best memories, because there are many individuals with enough merits... I am very grateful that they have considered me," he stated on his 57th birthday.

The jumper recalled that his legacy extends beyond the track: he has also been awarded the Princess of Asturias Prize and recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as a source of inspiration for youth.
