A four-year-old girl was found dead in the pool of a house in El Portal, Florida, early on Friday morning, local authorities confirmed.

The report from Local 10 News states that at around 3:40 a.m., a 911 call alerted emergency services about the presence of the child floating in the backyard pool of the house. A woman who was inside the home saw the girl in the pool but was unable to help her.

The paramedics transported the girl to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.

The dwelling, located near Northwest 90th Street and Northwest 1st Avenue, remained cordoned off for the investigation, which is being handled by the Homicide Unit of the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

So far, authorities have not revealed how the girl ended up in the pool nor have they provided more details about the circumstances of the incident.

The mother’s lawyer stated that the woman is inconsolable. "I have been with her all morning: she’s very sad, very distressed," said Richard Cooper.

The lawyer specified that the family was renting the house while they were on vacation in South Florida and described the child's death as a terrible accident.

The community members expressed their shock and sadness over the incident, describing it as an unexpected tragedy, especially considering the time it occurred, when the children should have been sleeping.

"Three in the morning is something unusual", said neighbor Harold Baptiste. "My heart is with them. I feel so sorry for them."

As seen in aerial images, the absence of a protective fence around the pool may have facilitated the child's access to the water.

The investigation remains open to clarify the details surrounding this unfortunate death. The identities of the girl and her mother have not been revealed.

The incident recalls another that occurred last year when an eight-year-old girl died sucked into a pool pipe at a hotel in Houston, Texas.

Aliyah Lynette Jaico was swimming in the pool of the "Doubletree by Hilton Houston Brookhollow" hotel when she suddenly disappeared around 4:50 PM and was swept into a pipe, according to the lawsuit filed by the family, which several local media outlets have accessed.

His body was discovered the morning after the day his disappearance was reported. Rescue divers saw his hand inside a pool pipe using video cameras.
