A tragic afternoon shook the province of Artemisa this Saturday, with the death of three minors in separate incidents occurring in the municipality of Bauta.

Around 5:30 p.m. on June 7, a lightning strike before the rain fatally struck two teenagers, aged 13 and 16, who were playing soccer outdoors in the Pita neighborhood of Urban Popular Council 2 in Bauta.

Both minors died at the scene, according to the provincial newspaper El Artemiseño.

In the comments section of the official Facebook profile of the state-run newspaper El Artemiseño, hundreds of internet users shared heartfelt messages of condolence to the families of the deceased minors, expressing their shock and sadness over the tragic events that took place in the province.

Osiel Roberto Fernández Carmona left a particularly poignant message as he fondly remembered the deceased teenagers: “Rest in peace great champions and warriors of life, Luis Antonio and Maicol will live forever in our hearts for all time.”

In the comments section, Odelquis Palomino also expressed his sorrow with a message that reflects the close bond with one of the victims: “Rest in peace, may God give strength to their parents. My heart breaks because my child was friends with Maikol; they used to play football together on the field. I'm very sorry.”

On her part, Camila Vázquez Pérez shared a farewell message directed at one of the deceased teenagers: “It’s very sad, to be honest, I still can't believe it. May you rest in peace, my friend Luis Antonio. You were a great friend to all of us, and today you have left us with our hearts in a million pieces and our souls empty.”

On that same day, the death of a three-year-old girl by drowning was also reported in a house located in Playa Baracoa.

The minor, originally from the municipality of Caimito, was with her family on the coast when the tragic incident occurred, the cited news portal emphasized.

Local authorities also confirmed a third incident that occurred in La Ernestina, an area near Punta Brava, where a traffic accident involving a motorcycle and a Lada car resulted in one death and two injuries.

The injured were transported to the Calixto García Clinical Surgical Hospital in Havana.

The evening of Saturday left the community of Bauta in a state of shock and mourning, following a series of tragic events that have cast a shadow over several families in Artemisa, just days before Father's Day is celebrated in Cuba.

In April of last year, the province of Matanzas was shaken following the discovery of the lifeless body of an eight-year-old boy, who had gone missing days earlier at the Villa Los Pinos beach in Boca de Camarioca.

Also in April, another young man who had been reported missing at sea was found dead, causing distress in his community.

These cases refer to other tragic events that occurred in 2022. In Matanzas, a child just two years old lost his life after receiving an electric shock when he touched a metal gate that was energized.

Months later, another minor died electrocuted during a children's party in a park in Havana, after coming into contact with faulty sound equipment.
