The message also highlights that Germany not only offers academic excellence, but also opens the door to new cultural and professional experiences.

Additionally, interested parties are encouraged to reach out to organizations such as the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which manages scholarships and international programs.

The campaign aims to encourage foreign students —including Cubans— to explore these educational opportunities beyond their borders.

Since January 1, 2025, Germany has implemented a comprehensive reform in its visa procedures to attract qualified professionals from around the world, including Cubans.

The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched an online portal that allows for the digital application of national visas for stays longer than 90 days, simplifying and speeding up the process for workers, students, and researchers, reported the alternative media Kubakunde.

During the first half of 2023, Germany saw a significant rise in asylum applications from Cuban citizens, increasing from 73 in the same period of 2022 to 607 in 2023, which represents an increase of over eight times.

In response to this increase, starting from July 29, 2023, Germany implemented the requirement of a transit visa for Cuban citizens traveling through airports in that country destined for third countries outside the Schengen area.

In November 2023, the Council of the European Union approved the digitalization of the Schengen visa application process, allowing applicants, including Cubans, to process their visas online. This initiative aims to simplify and expedite the application process, making it easier for legitimate travelers to access the Schengen Area.

Since February 2020, with the implementation of the new Schengen Visa Code, it has become easier to obtain visas for up to five years for frequent and trusted travelers, which benefits Cuban citizens who meet the established criteria.

This background provides relevant context for understanding the recent measures adopted by Germany to simplify the visa application process for skilled workers, offering new opportunities for Cuban professionals in the German job market.
