A motorcyclist was injured this Saturday, June 29, in a traffic accident that occurred around noon at the intersection of Máximo Gómez and Frexes streets in the city of Holguín.

According to witnesses of the incident, the accident occurred when the driver of an electric scooter tried to overtake a truck on the right, coinciding with the moment the heavy vehicle was turning in that same direction. The maneuver put the motorcyclist in the truck's blind spot, causing the collision and their fall onto the sidewalk.

The injured person was immediately taken to a hospital, where they received medical attention for injuries to one of their legs. Unofficial sources indicated that there might be a second individual involved, also injured, although only one would have been hospitalized.

The images shared by witnesses show the motorcycle lying on the pavement, with visible signs of blood and considerable damage to the body. Several people in the vicinity appeared distressed by the accident.

The posting of the incident in the Facebook group "Bus & Truck Accidents" sparked a wide-ranging debate among users regarding common reckless behaviors on public roads.

Numerous internet users pointed out that overtaking on the right is a dangerous practice and contrary to basic road safety rules. "You should never overtake on the right under any circumstances," stated one commentator, while others noted that many motorcycle riders are driving without a license, without a helmet, and violating traffic signals.

Some comments also drew attention to the responsibility of heavy vehicle drivers, who sometimes fail to use their turn signals or do not adequately check their blind spots before maneuvering.

This accident in Holguín adds to a worrying series of incidents involving motorcycles and trucks this year.

On June 18, a young man died in Havana following a severe collision between his motorcycle and a truck. In March, another accident resulted in the death of at least one person after a truck collided with a motorcycle with a sidecar in the Havana municipality of Arroyo Naranjo. And in February, a motorcycle crashed into a truck loaded with flour in Santiago de Cuba, resulting in several injuries.

These facts highlight a concerning trend on the island, characterized by reckless driving, a lack of traffic education, and insufficient enforcement of traffic regulations.
