The young Adalberto Rodríguez Martínez, one of the survivors of the fatal traffic accident that occurred nine days ago in the province of Pinar del Río, remains in serious condition, with a reserved prognosis, and continues to fight for his life, according to the latest medical report published by the Public Health authorities.
Rodríguez, 23 years old, was one of the three injured in the tragic traffic accident at kilometer 2 ½ of the Luis Lazo road on the night of June 20, when a trailer crashed into several people who were on the sidewalk in front of a house.
The accident resulted in four fatalities, including a nine-year-old girl and a pregnant woman.

As a result of the impact, Rodríguez sustained injuries that left him in critical condition, for which he underwent emergency surgery at the Abel Santamaría Cuadrado Clinical Surgical Hospital.
His health condition “remains serious, with a reserved prognosis, but he is no longer in critical condition,” reported this Saturday Dr. Lorena Reynoso Ramírez, a first-level specialist in Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine, in an update on the case published on the Facebook page of the Provincial Health Directorate of Pinar del Río.
The patient, admitted to the Intensive Care Unit II of the hospital, “remains conscious, follows commands, receives supplemental oxygen, but achieves adequate saturation, and his blood pressure is stable,” the doctor explained.
Adalberto has successfully evolved so far, but his situation still requires close monitoring due to his history and possible complications, Reynoso warned, and he assured that the hospital has "the necessary material and human resources to continue providing him with the best possible care."
The statement from the Health Directorate specified that the young man was hospitalized at the medical facility with "severe abdominal and thoracic trauma, in a state of full shock," and thus had to undergo emergency surgery.
Rodríguez presented a "critical condition: a hematoma that extended from the renal pathway to the pelvic cavity," which necessitated a damage control surgery performed by a medical team led by Dr. Luis Alberto Rojas Ruiz, a specialist in General Surgery and head of the on-call team.
Forty-eight hours later, the patient returned to the operating room for a thorough review, during which "the initial packing was removed, the injuries were assessed, and finally, the definitive closure of the abdomen was carried out, marking an important step in their recovery," the statement detailed.
"Every minute counts, every piece of medical care received, every gesture of support makes a difference in the life of this young man. His progress is a reflection of the collective effort of our professionals and the strength he himself demonstrates," emphasized the Provincial Health Directorate.
Teresa Martínez Viña, mother of the young patient, expressed her gratitude to the medical and paramedic staff at the hospital, reported journalist Alina López Ochoa in a post on Facebook. “Doctors, nurses, and technicians have done so much for my son. My eternal gratitude to them,” she stated.
