A young Cuban shared a video on TikTok showcasing the high prices of footwear in a store in Cuba, stating that shoes are "one of the most expensive things" being sold in the country at the moment.
"Yesterday I went out with my partner to buy soap because we had run out. And we happened to pass by a small place that sold shoes and flip-flops," shared the content creator known as Yoel Daniel (@yoel_daniel0). "My shoes are practically useless and my flip-flops have seen better days," he added.
The video, which has already sparked reactions on social media, shows a store with various models of shoes and their respective prices, which many Cubans consider to be unattainable.
"This shoe that I just picked up has a price of 25,000 pesos, which would be about 70 US dollars. The ones over here are priced at 12,000 pesos, which is roughly 33 in American currency. There are also others that range around 14,000 pesos, which would be 35," the young man detailed while showcasing some pairs of athletic shoes.
The content highlights the crisis of purchasing power in Cuba, where salaries in national currency are insufficient to cover basic needs such as footwear.
"And I had the brilliant idea of making a video to show them one of the most expensive things sold in Cuba: shoes," concluded the TikToker.
