The Hidalgo Public Security Secretariat announced in a statement on Facebook that one of the three people killed was a police investigator from the Attorney General's Office of the State of Mexico, but did not disclose his name, nor did it identify the Cuban and the other victim.

On a rural road in Las Pintas, 360 meters from the border with the State of Mexico, agents of the Tolcayuca Municipal Police discovered a black Jeep Rubicon with Michoacán license plates, which showed at least 20 bullet impacts on the bodywork, reported the newspaper La Jornada de Hidalgo.

On one side of the vehicle lay two of the men, while a third was found in the back seat of the jeep. None showed signs of life, confirmed paramedics from Civil Protection, who certified the deaths of all three victims.

The police collected spent casings at the scene from 9 mm and .223 calibers, which are considered for exclusive use by the armed forces, according to the newspaper.

The Attorney General's Office of the State of Hidalgo is in charge of investigating the triple homicide. So far, authorities have not confirmed any arrests related to the case, and the identity of the attackers remains unknown.
