The Cuban men's national team secured their spot in the final of the 2025 Volleyball Nations League thanks to Bulgaria's defeat against Iran (0-3) this Sunday, a result that paved the way for the Caribbean team despite their recent setback against China.

The Cuban team, which had complicated its aspirations after losing in five sets to the Asian team (20-25, 25-23, 15-25, 25-22, and 19-17) in Gdańsk, Poland, needed a combination of results to stay among the qualifiers.

With the Iranian victory, the Caribbean team confirmed its presence in the final round, which will take place in China starting on July 30, according to the official site Cubadebate.

Brazil, the clear favorite

The Brazilian team dominated the qualifying phase with an impressive record of 11 victories in 12 matches, establishing itself as the frontrunner for the title. Interestingly, their only setback occurred during the first week of competition against the team from the largest of the Antilles.

For its part, Cuba ranked sixth in the table, with six wins and the same number of losses, although only Slovenia—who still has to face Serbia—could displace it in the standings.

Intense competition for the tickets

Bulgaria and Iran also finished the round with a record of 6-6, but with fewer accumulated points: the Cubans scored 20 points, ahead of the 19 from the Iranians and the 17 from the Bulgarians.

The Nations League offers eight spots for the final round, although the automatic ticket for host China reduces the available slots to seven for the other teams.

Historic Return of Cuba

This will be Cuba's first participation in a Nations League final since this format was established in 2018, replacing the defunct World League, in which the Caribbean team was crowned champions in 1998.
