After weeks of instability in the supply of regulated bread in Santiago de Cuba, provincial authorities ensured that production will stabilize over the next 40 days, following the arrival of a ship with wheat flour that will supply the Frank País mill, the main provider for the region.

In a press conference, Jorge Luis Arce Ferrer, provincial director of the Food Company, explained that the raw material shortage had forced irregular deliveries and even to transport cereal from Havana, which caused delays and affected several municipalities, according to the site Sierra Maestra.

A temporary reprieve for consumers

"With the arrival of this ship, we have coverage for about 40 days, which will allow for some stability in the production and delivery of regulated bread to the population and prioritized sectors. Starting this Tuesday, we will reorganize production based on the deliveries made by the mill," stated Arce Ferrer.

The official detailed that the provincial network includes 42 bakeries, of which 22 belong to ALIMSAN and 20 to the Cuban Bread Company. These units, located in strategic areas of the city —such as Plaza de Marte, Ferreiro, La Alameda, and Micro 7 and 9— will also sell released bread. Furthermore, it is anticipated that this model will be implemented in one or two bakeries in each municipality.

Recurring problems

Arce Ferrer warned that distribution could be affected by unforeseen technical issues, such as power outages or a lack of water in bakeries. "That’s why it's important to maintain direct communication with each unit to know in real time if there are any difficulties with the service," he emphasized.

Despite this promise of stability, the authorities in Santiago have urged the population to stay informed through official channels, while efforts continue to ensure the equitable distribution of basic goods throughout the province.

Santiago de Cuba is one of the provinces most affected by the shortage of basic food, in a context marked by declining imports, internal transportation issues, and the country's financial limitations.
