The community of the Vista Alegre neighborhood in the city of Holguín is deeply shocked following the brutal murder of Ángel Ramírez, a 73-year-old man who would have turned 74 just two days after the crime.

The incident occurred on July 19 and has been publicly reported through the page "Reporte Cuba Ya" on Facebook.

According to a close relative, that day, around 7:00 PM, Ramírez was cooking at home when a man identified as Carlos Alberto Cuello, alias "Polo," forcefully entered the residence.

The attacker violently struck him in the face until he lost consciousness, fractured his nose, and ultimately suffocated him.

The motive for the crime was robbery. "Polo" stole a Cuban bicycle, a gas cylinder, and a Redmi cell phone.

That same night, he was arrested thanks to the swift cooperation of the mother of a young man who bought the stolen bicycle. The police found him hiding under a bed in his home, in the same neighborhood.

Ángel Ramírez has been described by those close to him as a family man, loved and respected.

"Good father, friend, grandfather, uncle, brother, unconditional son," wrote the complainant, who shared photos of the elderly man surrounded by children and loved ones.

The community, shaken by the brutality of the crime, has joined in the demand for justice.

Out of fear of reprisals, the whistleblower requested not to be publicly identified but called for the case to be known throughout the country. "Let them see the face of that degenerate," she asserted firmly.

The case generated hundreds of reactions on social media and among residents of Holguín, who are demanding a transparent investigation and a sentence commensurate with the severity of the crime.

"What kind of wretched monster, I keep saying that this country needs a Bukele. Until then, we will continue to see all kinds of atrocities on social media here, as justice is lenient with these killers," stated a mother.

"Send him to El Salvador or execute him, enough with the years and life sentences; otherwise, the murders of defenseless individuals will continue. The bad weed must be pulled out by the roots; he will be out soon and kill again, as has happened," said a resident in Mayabeque.

“It’s painful to see what Cuba has become. To be killed over a gas canister and a phone! A young kid who prefers to kill an older person rather than stand up against those who oppress them, so cowardly,” questioned an emigrant.
