Ernesto Iznaga Rodríguez, identified as one of the perpetrators of the brutal murder of two young residents of Cienfuegos on June 29, was captured by forces from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) early on Sunday morning, according to a government source.

The information -published on the Facebook profile "Las Cosas de Fernanda"- that has been following the case, revealed that the arrest took place in the community of El Granizo, located in the municipality of Cumanayagua, Cienfuegos.

Iznaga's arrest took place during a joint operation by the MININT, which included members of the special forces ("black berets") and plainclothes agents who stormed the settlement in search of the fugitive.

"Here in El Granizo, what happened, happened. The black berets were deployed, along with a bunch of people dressed in civilian clothes, and they apprehended the killer, who was hiding in a neighbor's house. It seems he entered at night through the back that leads to the woods, because no one here knew he was there," revealed a local resident to the cited media outlet.

According to the testimony, the woman who was harboring the alleged murderer was also arrested.

"And the funniest part: they tied up the handsome one. Let's see why he didn't turn against the guards if he was so charming. Mice are like that; they kill for scraps," added the witness.

Iznaga's criminal record would not be limited to the double homicide of June 29.

Inhabitants of rural areas in Cienfuegos accuse him of other violent acts against farmers, including threats, assaults, and harm to their animals.

"The rush is over for Ernesto Iznaga Rodríguez and his misdeeds against the farmers in the areas of Venta del Río, Paraíso, and La Sabana, threatening and killing the animals of those who work in the fields," the source stated.

The pursuit continues: "El Chivero" in the spotlight

Although one of the individuals involved has already been arrested, the other perpetrator of the crime, known as "El Chivero", is still at large.

"He runs through those hills, barefoot and without food... the police are chasing him, the farmers hate him and are ready to act together with the authorities to capture him. He will have no refuge, and anyone who helps him will face the same fate as all those who have offered shelter and assistance to these shameless individuals," the official profile pointed out.

According to Las Cosas de Fernanda, messages are constantly being received with information pointing to other accomplices.

"We will talk about their accomplices very soon, because our followers have sent countless private messages revealing the involvement of all of them in the misdeeds of these criminals. Stay tuned for the next publication; we will expose each and every one of these shameless individuals so that the authorities can take action against them and so that every resident of Cienfuegos knows who they are," revealed the official media.

The tone of the publication clearly expressed an inflexible stance regarding those who provided assistance to those involved in the double homicide.

"The law will be applied firmly, and they will lose not only their freedom but also all means and resources for sheltering criminals and murderers," they concluded.

A crime that shocked Cienfuegos

In the early hours of June 29, near the bar "El 24" in the city of Cienfuegos, a confrontation escalated into violence culminating in a double homicide.

The victims were Lester Leal and Luardys Agulle Jiménez, who were brutally attacked while spending time with family, including a pregnant woman and a minor, who also sustained injuries.

According to testimonies on social media, the conflict reportedly began inside the bar under the influence of alcohol and moved to the street, where the tragedy occurred.

Luardys's body was found lifeless at the scene, while Lester was taken alive to a hospital, where he passed away shortly after.

Indignation grew as family members publicly reported delays in police assistance and the transfer of the deceased, claiming they were informed that "there was no fuel" to carry out the removal of the body. This report further fueled public discontent, already heightened by the violence of crime.

In the days following the crime, the official profile "Las cosas de Fernanda" confirmed the arrest of Yoslayny de la Rosa Rodríguez, owner of a Jagua motorcycle.

Although De la Rosa Rodríguez was not the one who physically assaulted the victims, he played a key role in the escape from the scene, as he transported the two attackers on his motorcycle immediately after the crime, which makes him a direct accomplice to the events.
