Three individuals were arrested early Sunday morning following a gunpoint carjacking that ended in a crash in southwest Miami, authorities confirmed.

According to the Miami Police Department, the incident began at 1:52 a.m. when a vehicle theft was reported at the intersection of Southwest 17th Avenue and Fifth Street. The car, described by several media outlets as a silver Hyundai Elantra, was found a few blocks away, having collided with a building on Southwest 22nd Avenue, according to local reports such as Local10.

After the impact, the occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, prompting the police to establish a perimeter and deploy tactical units, armored vehicles, and SWAT equipment. With the help of K-9 dogs, the officers located the three suspects and apprehended them after several hours of searching, as confirmed by CBS Miami.

NBC Miami reported that the vehicle crashed into the business Mi Casita Bar and Grill and gathered statements from its owner, Ricardo De La Hoz, who stated that the damages are significant. “The impact was very strong at the corner of the building. Now we have to hire an engineer to inspect the structure and make the repairs,” he told the media.

Neighbors also expressed their concern. “I am surprised. This is not the first time I have seen this type of police activity in the area,” commented Nick Acosta to CBS Miami.

No injuries were reported in the robbery or the accident. So far, the police have not disclosed the identities of those arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
