A 15-year-old Cuban teenager was sent to a detention center in Montevideo after being involved in a violent incident that shocked the border city of Rivera in Uruguay.

The minor is accused of wounding two brothers of the same age with a white weapon. One of them remains hospitalized due to the severity of the injuries, reported the local outlet Debate Uruguay.

According to the channel Telenoche, the incident took place on July 22 in the Centro neighborhood of Rivera. The victim went to the location accompanied by several friends, following a prior altercation involving a young woman who was the aggressor's partner and a classmate of one of them.

What seemed like a teenage conflict escalated into a violent knife attack. In the midst of the confrontation, the young Cuban grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim in the back, leaving part of the weapon embedded in the body.

The tip of the knife remained lodged in the victim's chest and had to be removed at the local hospital, where he is still being monitored under medical observation. His brother, who was also at the scene, sustained cuts to his arms.

After gathering film records and testimonies, the Uruguayan Prosecutor's Office identified the assailant and issued an arrest warrant on July 23, which was executed that same day.

The unidentified Cuban teenager was presented on July 25 before the 3rd Turn Prosecutor's Office and subsequently before the Rivera Criminal Court.

The 1st Turn judge ordered his formal indictment for the crime of specially aggravated attempted homicide and aggravated personal injury due to the use of a suitable weapon, as the perpetrator, reported Aplateia.

As a precautionary measure, his admission to the National Institute for Adolescent Social Inclusion (INISA), located in the Uruguayan capital, was ordered until a final first-instance ruling is issued.
