A 47-year-old Cuban woman, mother of two children and identified as Mailenis Blanco Amor, was brutally murdered earlier this week in the town of Puerta de Golpe, in the municipality of Consolación del Sur, in the province of Pinar del Río.
According to what a familiar source revealed on social media, three men disguised as police officers arrived at her home, broke in forcefully, and attacked her with extreme violence.
Ariaxna Rodríguez, the victim's cousin, detailed what happened and denounced the crime as an act of extreme brutality.
"My cousin MAILENIS BLANCO AMOR was brutally murdered in Cuba. It was in a small village called Puerta de Golpe. Three men disguised as police officers knocked on her door, entered her house, tied her hands and feet, stuffed a piece of underwear so deep into her mouth that she couldn't even scream... and they killed her. They beat her savagely. They broke her nose. They tortured her," he described.
"They took the life of a good woman. A mother. A daughter. A cousin, a friend, a woman full of love. Someone who never harmed anyone, who was always a noble soul, sweet, kind to everyone. Three soulless monsters took her life," he added.
Ariaxna Rodríguez, who resides outside of Cuba, denounced the climate of impunity that prevails in the country.
"In Cuba, there is no justice. There is no law. There is silence. There is fear. There is corruption. There is impunity. Where is the justice for Maylenis? Where are the answers? Where are the guilty? Where is the condemnation that truly matters? Where is the outcry of all those who should be shouting with us?" she questioned.
The woman emphasized that the family is shattered, in shock, and filled with rage.
"We want to scream until we are heard. We want the world to know what was done to her. She had her whole life ahead of her. She had children. She had dreams. She had a family that loved her. We know she fought with everything she had. She screamed. She begged. She must have called her children, her mother, her husband, anyone who could save her," she concluded.
Ariaxna Rodríguez did not provide details about the alleged motive for the crime, although other reports on social media - such as from the crime reporter Niover Licea - have suggested robbery as the supposed motivation for the murder.
In recent days, the crime has caused genuine shock on social media, where many comments from people close to the victim can't believe such brutality.
Advances in research
Various sources on social media have reported in the last few hours the alleged identification of the three individuals involved.
Two people would have been arrested and a third would be at large. However, this information is not official.
According to reports, they all have criminal records, which has caused outrage among neighbors who question how these individuals were at liberty.
Official media outlets have not yet commented on the crime nor have they confirmed any arrests.
