Santiago de Cuba was once again the scene of a bloody event on August 12, when a street party in the Reparto Vista Hermosa ended in tragedy.

According to a report on Facebook by the independent communicator Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, the incident occurred on Calle G, between 6 and 5, during a “pumpum” (a colloquial term referring to a street party, informal gathering, or impromptu party in a public space).

There, two young men with old grievances crossed paths, and one of them decided to "settle the score," unleashing a tragic event.

The victim, identified as Yoan Aguilera, 19 years old, received a fatal stab wound that, according to witnesses, was inflicted by another young man known as Yunior. “It’s very likely that he’s dead. I was there, and he fell like a chicken,” said one of the attendees to Mayeta Labrada.

Aguilera was urgently transferred to Joaquín Castillo Duany Military Hospital, but the initial reports circulating on social media are not encouraging, as official confirmations about his condition are awaited.

This episode adds to a wave of violence that has been affecting Santiago de Cuba in recent weeks and has resulted in several fatalities and serious injuries in various neighborhoods.

Among recent events is the case of a father of two small children who died after receiving a direct stab wound to the heart during a summer party. Witnesses reported that the incident started as an argument and ended abruptly when the attacker, still at large, delivered the fatal blow.

In parallel, a young man identified as Yudel Vegue Kindelán was stabbed twice —once in the neck— in the Nuevo Vista Alegre neighborhood, leaving him in critical condition and under intensive care.

Most of these attacks have occurred during neighborhood parties or public activities without police presence or preventive measures, which residents see as an alarming pattern. Citizens' complaints highlight the inaction of the authorities and the lack of a swift response, reinforcing the sense of helplessness.

As outrage grows on social media and in the streets, the question many are asking is how many more lives must be lost before effective measures are taken to curb the escalation of crime.

For now, investigations remain open and Santiago de Cuba remains tense, caught in a spiral of violence that shows no signs of letting up.
