A 48-year-old woman was severely injured after being brutally stabbed in her home on Thursday morning in the northwest area of Miami-Dade, in an attack that took place in front of her minor daughter.
The assailant who escaped from the scene has sparked an intense police search in the area.
The incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. in the vicinity of 172nd Street and 94th Court, as confirmed by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO).
Neighbors alerted the authorities after hearing screams, and shortly thereafter, emergency teams arrived at the scene.
A video recorded with a cell phone captured the shocking scene: a trail of blood and personal belongings scattered on the stairs of the residence.
The images also captured the victim being transported on a stretcher by paramedics, visibly bloodied, to an ambulance.
The woman was urgently taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital North, where she remains in critical but stable condition.
According to medical sources, he suffered puncture wounds to vital organs such as the lung, liver, kidney, and heart.
In the course of the investigation, authorities identified the alleged assailant as Manuel Salgado-Peña, a 54-year-old man whose nationality has not been disclosed.
According to a relative of the victim -quoted by local media- the man was in a romantic relationship with the victim until about ten months ago.
The police launched an operation in the area, including aerial surveillance with helicopters, but so far the suspect remains at large.
The Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's assistance in locating him and has set up the Miami-Dade Crime Stopper Line, available at 305-471-8477, to receive any information that may aid in his capture.
The case remains under investigation as concerns grow in the community about this new episode of extreme domestic violence.
