The last two femicides

Last Saturday, the femicide of Bárbara Elena Tejería Magdaleno was reported. She was a 56-year-old mother whose body was found in an open area in the town of Las Cañas, in Calabazar, which is part of the Boyeros municipality in Havana.

The woman was allegedly attacked with a machete by her ex-partner, a man over 60 years old identified as Radamé, according to the independent media 14ymedio.

In recent months, Bárbara Elena had expressed to her family that she wanted to end the relationship and that she felt harassed. Nevertheless, she decided to go alone to her partner's home to collect some belongings. Since that moment, there has been no further news of her.

The family reported her disappearance, but the authorities refused to act until the 72-hour period established by regulation had passed. During those days of uncertainty, her children, two young women aged 25 and 19, and a 15-year-old boy, waited for news that never came.

On August 11, a neighbor reported the discovery of a body in a nearby wasteland. The corpse was in an advanced state of decomposition and showed signs of violence. Hours later, the suspected perpetrator was found dead in a thicket, where all evidence suggests he hanged himself.

Last Thursday, the murder of Ledisvannielis Acosta Echavarría was reported in a home located at 360 Amistad Street, between San José and Barcelona, in Centro Habana, after she was allegedly stabbed by her partner, who left her lying in the bathroom.

After the crime, the alleged assailant spent the day walking around the area and selling a dog he had as a pet.

Around 8:00 p.m., he turned himself in to the authorities, claiming that he had acted under the influence of drugs.
