A Cuban TikTok user identified as @leivyrdoriguez75 shared a video proudly showcasing his home in Cuba with the message: "My little house in Cuba, 100% mine."

The post, accompanied by images of a well-maintained, modern house, generated thousands of reactions on social media: over 4,500 "likes," 453 comments, and dozens of shares in just a few hours.

However, the issue of property in Cuba sparked a strong debate in the comments section. While some users congratulated the creator for owning a well-maintained home, others questioned the legal security of being a property owner on the Island.

"I paused at the comments and I have never in my life seen anyone in Cuba have their house taken away if they are the owner of their own house, only those who occupy vacant houses," wrote an internet user.

Another user was more skeptical: "Yours until some official finds it appealing, good luck." In a similar vein, someone else added: "God bless your home that is yours, may it give you lots of health so you can enjoy it. Until some official sees it as nice and gets tempted."

There were those who compared the situation to banking outside the Island: "Here it's not yours either; it's the bank's, and then what?"

Some tried to ease the tension by reminding others that there are property owners in Cuba who live peacefully: “I have my house just the same, beautiful and large, and nothing has ever happened because it has an owner, legal papers, and no crimes are committed in my house that would attract the government's interest.”

The post highlighted the sensitivity surrounding the issue of private property in Cuba, where for decades the State was the main administrator of housing and fears still linger about the security of properties in a country with an ambiguous legal framework.

The contrast is evident and generates controversy. Some argue that those with resources in Cuba live better than many emigrants in the U.S., because they do not have mortgage or car debts. However, this perception does not reflect the reality for most Cubans, who face significant economic difficulties.
