The President of the United States, Donald Trump, once again targeted financial magnate George Soros and his son Alex, accusing them of supporting violent protests in various parts of the country.

In a message posted on his social network Truth Social, Trump called for both to be charged under the RICO Act, a federal statute that targets crimes related to organized crime.

"George Soros and his wonderful son from the radical left should be prosecuted under RICO for their support of violent protests, and much more, across the United States. We will not allow these lunatics to continue tearing our country apart, without even giving it a chance to breathe and be free," wrote the Republican.

Trump went further in his attack by asserting that Soros and his associates are part of a group that, in his view, "has caused great harm to our country."

He added that these actions include "his unhinged friends from the West Coast," and concluded his post with a warning: "Beware, we are watching you!"

The response from Open Society Foundations

The Open Society Foundations (OSF), the philanthropic organization created by George Soros and currently led by his son Alex, immediately responded to Trump's accusations.

In a statement released on X, the organization categorically rejected the allegations and denounced that they are part of a disinformation campaign and threats.

"The Open Society Foundation does not support or finance violent protests. The accusations against us are false, and the threats against our founder and president are outrageous," the tweet states.

In the same message, the OSF asserted its mission in favor of social justice.

"Our mission is to promote human rights, justice, and democratic principles in the United States and around the world. We defend the fundamental freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States, including the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful protest, which are hallmarks of any vibrant democracy," it stated.

Soros, a frequent target of Trump

George Soros, 94 years old, is one of the main donors of the Democratic Party and a key figure in funding progressive causes both in the United States and abroad.

His influence has made him a recurring target of attacks from Trump and the more conservative wing of the Republican Party, which has placed him at the center of multiple conspiracy theories.

Residing in New York, the Hungarian-American entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist is a supporter of liberal political causes, to which he donates through his foundation.

The president accuses him of using his economic power to promote "radical left" policies and weaken conservatives.

Criticism has intensified in recent years with protests against police violence, pro-immigration movements, and the funding of progressive campaigns at the local and state levels.

Political context

Trump's statements come at a time of strong political polarization in the United States, where the Republican has made attacks against Soros a central theme to mobilize his base.

Meanwhile, Open Society Foundations insists that it will continue its philanthropic work despite the threats and accusations.

"We will continue to defend democracy and human rights against those who seek to undermine them with hatred and disinformation," affirmed the organization in its official statement.
