The Cuban-American congressman Mario Díaz-Balart issued a stern warning to the regime in Havana, stating that the recent pressure measures from the United States are just the beginning and that “much more is to come.”
In an interview with Martí Noticias, the Republican lawmaker stated that the current administration in Washington has resumed a tough stance on Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua, which includes sanctions, the continued designation of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism, and increased measures against those who benefit from the repressive apparatus.
“The days of confusion and appeasement in the United States are over”, said Díaz-Balart, convinced that never before in over 60 years have we been “this close to the freedom of Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua.”
The congressman warned that the U.S. military deployment in the hemisphere is not "a show or a spectacle," but a serious action.
Regarding Nicolás Maduro's regime, he asserted that there are only three paths: "leave now, end up in an American prison like Noriega, or meet the fate of Soleimani, reduced to dust in a plastic bag."
Regarding Cuba, Díaz-Balart insisted that the pressure will increase and that the dictatorships in the region will be treated as “a cancer that can no longer be tolerated.”
Additionally, the legislator denounced that in Miami and other U.S. cities, companies linked to relatives and associates of the Castro leadership are operating, profiting from the hunger and misery of the Cuban people.
“It is not possible for Miami to give oxygen to the Castro repressive apparatus”, he declared, while announcing investigations to shut down businesses that operate as “tentacles of the regime” in the United States.
In that regard, he celebrated the expulsion from the United States of individuals directly associated with the Cuban regime, something that, he said, will be increasingly allowed. “We will see more pressure not only on the regime in Cuba, but also on those who are supporting the regime in Cuba,” he warned.
