The University of Miami dismissed neurologist Michelle Bravo after she shared a message on social media justifying the murder of Charlie Kirk, founder of the ultraconservative organization Turning Point USA, which occurred on September 10 in Utah.
On his Instagram account, Bravo shared a comment that compared the crime against Kirk to the situation of the Palestinian population in recent years, concluding with a quote attributed to Malcolm X: "The hens have returned to the henhouse."
"What was done to Charlie Kirk has been done to countless Palestinian babies, children, women, and men, not just in the last two years of the ongoing genocide but for decades. And every time it happened and was caught on camera for all of us to see, Charlie Kirk would come out and say: 'I love this, I want more of this, the people who did this are great, I love them and they should keep doing it forever.' As Malcolm said, the chickens have come home to roost," the expert's message stated.
The post, however, was criticized for being seen as a justification for violence and quickly went viral on digital platforms.
The Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami confirmed on Saturday that the specialist was no longer part of the institution.
"The University of Miami regrets the unacceptable public comments made by one of our employees. This individual no longer works at our institution. Freedom of expression is a fundamental right. At the same time, expressions that approve or endorse violence, or that are inconsistent with our policies and values, are not acceptable," the official statement said.
Bravo's profile was removed from both Instagram and the university health system's website, where he was listed as a specialist in headache treatment.
Kirk, 31 years old, died after being shot multiple times while attending an event at the University of Utah Valley. The alleged attacker, identified as Tyler Robinson, 22 years old, has been arrested and faces murder charges.
The phrase "Hey fascist! Catch!" was inscribed on one of the projectiles found in the murder weapon, according to local media.
After the murder of the founder of Turning Point USA, considered a close ally of President Donald Trump and one of the most influential voices on the right in the country, the government has launched a crackdown on those who analyze or criticize the event, Kirk's figure, and political violence in the United States from a non-official perspective.
This week, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) dismissed one of its employees after she shared a post on social media that "downplayed" the murder of the conservation activist.
