Ulises Toirac criticizes the government's inaction in the face of the crisis: "Not even bad measures... and that terrifies me."

Toirac mocked the official energy policy: “In the spotlight, we only hear about the SEN and photovoltaic parks that would improve electricity production in the future. But even if that were true, electricity is not something you can eat.”

The Cuban comedian Ulises Toirac once again stirred up social media with a strong comment about the situation the country is facing, highlighting the government's inaction in the face of the economic and social crisis.

“No concrete measures are being observed to bring about a change in the current conditions of the country (…) not even bad ones. And that terrifies me,” he wrote in a post on Facebook, where he described a strained atmosphere marked by the collapse of the Cuban peso, almost permanent blackouts, and widespread shortages.

Toirac mocked the official energy policy: “In the spotlight, all anyone hears about is the SEN and photovoltaic parks that would supposedly improve electricity production in the future. But even if that were true, electricity isn't something you can eat.”

The comedian concluded with a damning message: the government's silence is more troubling than the population's own shortages.

It is worth noting that the National Electric System (SEN) continues to experience widespread outages due to a significant deficit in generation capacity, which keeps the Cuban population enduring daily and prolonged blackouts throughout the country.

The Electric Union (UNE) stated this Thursday that the impact on the electric service lasted for 24 hours the previous day and continued into the early hours of today. The highest recorded impact was 1,885 megawatts (MW) at 9:30 PM on Wednesday.

The outlook for the coming days remains uncertain and shows no signs of immediate improvement, as millions of Cubans face long hours without electricity, affecting daily life and deepening social discontent.

His response to the campaign against him

The statements came alongside a controversy on social media, where some criticized him for receiving treatment in the Cuban public health system. Toirac responded with irony, stating that his treatment was proper and free at the Pando Ferrer Hospital in Havana.

"Contrary to what some of them wished, they didn't throw acid in my eye; instead, they conducted a thorough analysis (...) and it is expected that with future injections my progress will be even more favorable," he recounted.

True to his style, he added sarcastically, "I'm going to the store to grab the groceries, since I don't live here but I live here," thus reaffirming his connection to daily life in Cuba.

While many followers expressed their support and wishes for a speedy recovery, others insisted that the "free" nature of healthcare on the island is a facade, as it comes at the cost of the low standard of living imposed on the people.
