In the early hours of this Friday, a member of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) was found dead on a stretch of road connecting Remedios to Caibarién in Villa Clara, as reported by independent media and local residents.
The police officer has been identified by his last name, Mesa, popularly known as "Cal Viva."
His body was found lying on the track, in an area known as La Cabaña, according to reports from the media outlet La Tijera on Facebook.
Witnesses reported that the body exhibited an apparent bullet wound to the forehead and that the officer did not have his service weapon with him, although these details have not yet been officially confirmed.
The same sources affirm that the area remained cordoned off for several hours, with a strong presence of police and State Security officials, who intervened immediately in the area.
The figure of the agent has generated mixed reactions on social media.
According to neighbors cited by La Tijera, Mesa worked as Head of Sector in the La Reforma area, where he is remembered for alleged abuses and repression against the population, which reportedly led to the imprisonment of several individuals.
"It is important to remember that on June 6, he was promoted for 'his work' in the repression against the people," stated the author of the post.
However, other internet users defended him.
User Wilfredo Quiñones stated, "Mesa was solely focused on apprehending criminals and was considered one of the most efficient by the community. But of course, people only remember the law when they are affected."
In a subsequent post, La Tijera shared photos showing part of the body on the ground surrounded by officers.
"He is still lying on the road; it's full of police and State Security personnel," commented the source who sent the images.
For its part, the portal CubaNet reported having access to two videos in which the bloodied agent can be seen lying in the middle of the road while other officers redirected traffic.
"He had a gunshot wound in the middle of his forehead and about four stab wounds in his chest," a witness told CubaNet.
In one of the recordings, a bus driver can be heard recounting that he saw the police officer talking to someone on the side of the same road hours earlier.
Another witness stated that the deceased "was an abuser."
It is worth noting that, for now, there is no official confirmation regarding the causes of death or the details of the discovery, beyond what has been reported by these publications.
So far, the Cuban authorities have not issued a public statement regarding the matter.
