"This decision aims to avoid further service interruptions," the company explained. However, it warned that if a new significant break occurs due to active leaks, an immediate shutdown will be mandatory to repair the system.

Since Sunday, technical brigades have been working on the ground in preliminary tasks such as earthworks, transportation of resources and equipment, with the aim of minimizing the disruption time once the system shutdown takes place.

Some neighborhoods in Havana have been without access to potable water service for over 30 days in their homes. Residents have taken to the streets to protest.

Aguas de La Habana assured that this intervention is necessary to correct the critical vulnerability currently present in the affected section of the pipeline and asked for understanding from the Cuban people.
