The President of the United States, Donald Trump, delivered a speech this Tuesday at the UN General Assembly in New York, where he defended his controversial immigration policy focused on reducing asylum applications and increasing deportations.

"When we started to stop and deport everyone crossing the border, and to expel illegal immigrants from the United States, they simply stopped coming," he assured.

Trump linked the immigration debate to security in Europe, citing prison statistics in Germany and Switzerland. "In 2024, almost 50% of inmates in Germany were foreigners or migrants," he noted.

"In Switzerland, it is 72%. When your prisons are filled with supposed asylum seekers who repay kindness with crime, it is time to end the failed experiment of open borders," he stated.

The leader insisted that migrants who violate the law or submit false asylum applications "must be sent immediately back to their countries," and emphasized that issues should be resolved in their countries of origin, not "create new problems" in the United States or Europe.

"Europe is in serious trouble. It has been invaded by a force of illegal immigrants like the world has never seen before. And out of political correctness, they are doing nothing about it," he said.

At another point in his speech, Trump attacked multilateralism and criticized the UN itself, accusing it of financing the migration crisis.

He also disqualified the policies against climate change, which he called "the greatest scam ever perpetrated in the world," and referred to the energy transition as a "green deception" more expensive than fossil fuels.

The U.S. president also announced that his administration will lead "an international effort to strengthen the Biological Weapons Convention" through a verification system using artificial intelligence.

Trump took the opportunity to compare his current term with what he described as "four years of weakness, anarchy, and radicalism" under the previous administration.

“A year ago, our country was in serious trouble, but today we are the most dynamic nation in the world,” he stated, highlighting what he described as the strongest economy, the most secure borders, and the most powerful military on the planet.

Trump's speech, laden with threats, warnings and reproaches to European countries and international organizations, coincided with the increasing diplomatic pressure on Washington to find solutions to the conflict in Gaza and the war in Ukraine.

Furthermore, he reiterated that recognizing a Palestinian state would be "a reward for Hamas" and criticized Europe for continuing to buy Russian oil despite the invasion of Ukraine.
