The President of the United States, Donald Trump, lashed out on Wednesday against the Democrats for their immigration and social policies, accusing them of "destroying" the country, while defending his own, more restrictive and controversial agenda.
“Democrats want illegal immigrants, many of them violent offenders, to receive free healthcare... They want open borders... and most importantly: crime (they like it, and we do not!)”, he wrote on his social network Truth Social.
“They want to cut billions of dollars from our once vulnerable rural hospitals (which we addressed by giving them the largest cash infusion in HISTORY!). They want men to participate in women's sports, for everyone to be ‘transgender,’ open borders (...), and so many other things that will destroy the United States. We cannot let this happen!” he expressed.
A few weeks ago, Trump also referred to former President Joe Biden as “the worst president in the history of the United States,” whom he held responsible for allowing what he termed a “criminal invasion” through the southern border of the country.
Since his return to power in January 2025, Trump has pushed a series of measures to reverse the immigration policies of the Biden administration.
Among the most controversial is the attempt to eliminate the humanitarian parole program that benefited migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, leaving over 530,000 people in a migratory limbo.
Another measure was the elimination of the CBP One application, used to request asylum appointments, which was replaced by CBP Home, a platform criticized for promoting self-deportation. Additionally, Trump announced that he will offer a financial stipend and airfare to irregular immigrants who choose to leave the country voluntarily.
“We are facing a real enemy. We need to secure the safety of the border,” stated the White House from its rapid response account, reaffirming the national security narrative surrounding the immigration issue that instills fear among immigrants and Americans.
These actions have raised alarm among human rights organizations and migrant communities, who criticize the president's tough stance and warn about its humanitarian consequences.
