The Consulate General of Spain in Havana published an important clarification this Friday aimed at applicants for Spanish nationality under the Democratic Memory Law (LMD), addressing the confusion caused by different types of confirmation emails in the appointment request process.

The diplomatic office specified that the only valid justification to support the appointment request —which will allow for the submission of the nationality application after October 22, 2025— is the one received from the address noreply@maec.es with the subject “APPLICATION FOR CREDENTIALS RECEIVED”.

The authentic document includes, among other elements, an identifier, a Secure Verification Code (CSV), and a credential application number, the entity stated, and reminded that the deadline to apply for the so-called Grandchildren's Law expires on October 22nd.

In contrast, the automatic response sent before August 2025 from cog.lahabana.lmdsol1@maec.es with the subject “Automatic Response: LMD APPOINTMENTSis not valid as an official justification.

The Consulate also explained that some users are experiencing errors when verifying their CSV codes on the electronic headquarters, as these appear split into two lines in the original email.

If an extra space is included when copying them, the warning "CSV not found" may appear.

"It is essential to ensure that the code does not contain extra spaces when copied," emphasizes the official note.

The statement also includes examples of valid proofs with the personal information obscured to guide applicants.

The Consulate also noted that the deadline for submitting files related to the Law of Democratic Memory is October 22nd.

He reiterated the importance of carefully reading the instructions published on their official page and social media, as nationality requests under the LMD continue to be one of the most sought-after procedures on the island, with thousands of Cubans in the process of obtaining Spanish citizenship.
