The uncertainty surrounding the whereabouts of Doraiky Águila Vázquez, missing since March 15 in Lawton, Havana, was once again stirred this Friday following the spread of a rumor on social media claiming that the woman had been found deceased.

The false information was shared by the Facebook group "Noticia del Momento," managed by Yilian Arroyo, but was soon categorically denied by Damnielle Días Fernández, a relative of Doraiky.

In another post on Facebook, Damnielle clarified that the news was false and urged the public not to be misled:

"I want to clarify that the publication regarding Dory is false. I am making this public for the people who have been following the case from day one and helping us share it so she can be found," he emphasized.

"I ask all the people who are helping us to keep sharing", he added.

The denial comes after nearly seven months of a disappearance marked by a lack of official answers and the family's increasing desperation, which has had to carry out the search for Doraiky on their own, despite her suffering from a condition of transient memory loss, making her particularly vulnerable.

A disappearance without answers

Doraiky was last seen in the early hours of March 15, when she left her home on Pocitos Street, in the Lawton neighborhood. She was wearing a yellow outfit and black sandals with a red stripe. Since then, there has been no clear information about her whereabouts.

The mother of the missing woman, Maura Vázquez, has reported the authorities' inaction due to the lack of progress.

"My intention is to critique, to speak the truth so that we can address what is real. I no longer ask, plead, or implore, I hold the Cuban government responsible for the search process," she emphasized in a message in June.

I'm losing my life waiting for my daughter, she recently wrote on social media, accompanying her words with desperate pleas and calls for citizen solidarity.

The family has offered a reward of 350,000 Cuban pesos for anyone who provides reliable information, and has shared contact numbers to receive tips. However, so far they have not received any results.

Activists and feminist groups are pushing for change

The case has prompted the activation of the Yeniset Alert, a mechanism initiated by the collective Yo Sí Te Creo en Cuba and the Gender Observatory of Alas Tensas, which is used in cases of missing women.

Feminist organizations and neighbors have also insisted on redirecting the search with a community-based strategy.

About 20 days ago, the official journalist Miguel Reyes warned that Doraiky could be held against her will, under false pretenses, due to her mental condition and vulnerability.

Despite these alerts, the institutional response has been slow and insufficient.

The official press barely mentioned the case after months of silence: the Educational Channel broadcast a message at the request of the mother, but this did not lead to concrete actions from the authorities.

Relatives demand real action

The denial issued this Friday highlights the damage caused by false news in the midst of such a delicate search. Therefore, the family insists that what is truly urgent is for institutions to act with seriousness.

The delayed release of the Educational Channel was a reaction to the increasing pressure from citizens. However, it is not enough to just share a post: there is an urgent need for diligent action from the police and the prosecutor's office to clarify what happened.

Doraiky Águila is a mother, wife, and daughter, with two children waiting for her at home.

Her family has reiterated that anyone who sees her should provide information immediately, to prevent this case from falling into silence.

They keep the search alive on their own, while calling for an effective response from the institutions and for the disappearance of Doraiky not to be added to the long list of unresolved cases in the country.
