A truck accident that took place in the province of Granma resulted in 22 injured individuals, of whom 7 were transported to the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Provincial Hospital in Bayamo due to the severity of their injuries, according to local health authorities.
Dr. Leticia Fernández, the municipal director of Health in Jiguaní, explained to Radio Jiguaní that the injured were initially treated at the Edor de Los Reyes (Jiguaní) and David Moreno (Santa Rita) polyclinics, where they received immediate medical attention and necessary resources.
There are no fatalities or minors among the injured
Among the 22 injured, there are no reported fatalities, and authorities clarified that neither minors nor pregnant women were traveling in the vehicle, as stated by CMKX Radio Bayamo on Facebook.
The truck was not typically used for transporting passengers; it had been rented by a group of self-employed workers from Santiago de Cuba who were headed to the coastal municipality of Niquero to participate in local festivities.
Preliminary cause of the accident
According to the preliminary report, the truck's drive shaft detached, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and triggering the accident.
The authorities are continuing to investigate the incident to determine accountability and prevent similar occurrences in the future.
