A young man identified as Dayfred Rizo Noda Herrera was arrested in Cárdenas, Matanzas, accused of being the perpetrator of the murder of a 62-year-old man that occurred on Sunday evening at a bar in the city, as reported on Facebook by the official profile “Con Todos La Victoria,” linked to the provincial police authorities.
According to the publication, the victim worked as a bartender at Churri-Churri, located on Calvo and 28 Avenue, where he attempted to intervene in a dispute involving Rizo Noda Herrera.
In response, the young man allegedly reacted violently and attacked him with a knife, inflicting a wound to the chest that resulted in his death shortly thereafter at the municipal hospital.
The alleged assailant, who is currently unemployed, will be prosecuted for the crimes of murder and illegal possession of a knife, the publication clarified, accompanied by a message of "zero tolerance" towards "illegal activities and social indiscipline."
The case had previously been reported on social media by neighbors and acquaintances, who identified the victim as Carlos Laferte and presented him as the owner of a café in Cárdenas.
However, the official version released this Tuesday describes him as an employee of the mentioned bar, which could clarify the initial confusion between citizen reports and the information provided by official sources.
The crime has caused dismay in the so-called Ciudad Bandera, where neighbors and residents mourned the loss of a man who was greatly loved in his community. His death adds to a rising wave of violence affecting several areas of the country amid the deep economic and social crisis Cuba is experiencing.
