The Cuban singer Eduardo Antonio, popularly known as The Divo of Placetas, announced this Thursday the death of his mother Olguita in Cuba, due to dengue, a disease that has alarmingly spread across the entire island.

Through an emotional post on his Instagram account, the artist expressed his deep sorrow and thanked his followers for the support received during the days when his mother was ill.

"Thank you to all my friends and followers who have been concerned about my mother's health. Unfortunately, Cuba is currently experiencing a dengue pandemic, which has affected my mother today," wrote Eduardo Antonio.

The singer added a heartfelt farewell message: “Mom, you will be the most painful and bittersweet goodbye I have ever had. Thank you for every minute you gave me, for all your guidance and values. I know you will continue to guide and accompany me with your light and beautiful energy from heaven. Save me a little spot by your side and Dad's. Say hello to my girl Claudia and my aunt Reina. For the day I have to leave, hold me close so I can tell you how difficult it has been to be without you.”

“I love you, my mother, forever, and I will remain here with your love and your joy. I will need a lot of strength to move forward, as I never imagined the pain I feel today could be so dark and deep. I promise not to disappoint you, neither as a man nor as an artist. I will always give my best as you taught me, to continue being your pride by shining as an artist and being loved by my audience,” it reads in another part of his text.

El Divo reminisced nostalgically about how he was always the pride of his mother: “Your greatest medicine was always my triumph and the applause of my audience, the same audience to whom I now ask for their support and to whom I will continue to sing with a full heart but with more love and strength than ever. Your blessing will always be my starting point; you will forever live in my heart, Olguita, my beautiful mother.”

In the midst of their pain, they informed their followers that the scheduled performances for the coming days will not be canceled.

The news has generated expressions of solidarity among colleagues in the artistic community and fans of the singer, who have left messages of support and condolences on their social media.

Roy García, husband of Eduardo Antonio, told CiberCuba that his partner has been unable to travel to the island to say goodbye to his mother because there are only flights available until Friday.
