A 30-year-old woman passed away in the neighborhood of Lawton, in Havana, allegedly due to an unidentified virus that continues to affect several provinces in the country.
The news has caused shock and complaints on social media about the lack of medical attention and funeral resources. When the family went to the polyclinic to report the death, there were no death certificates available, a relative recounted on the Facebook profile of influencer and singer-songwriter Saúl Manuel.
A relative reported that the young woman died without receiving adequate medication, as there were no medicines available to treat her. An autopsy was also not performed.
After his passing, he remained at home for several hours because there was no hearse available.
Finally, the family had to pay 20 thousand pesos for a vehicle to arrive, which even arrived without a coffin to place her in. She was taken directly to the cemetery to be buried.
The victim, according to relatives, was the mother of two children.
On social media, several users identifying themselves as residents of Lawton claimed that in recent days there have been other deaths reported with similar symptoms.
However, Cuban authorities have not officially reported what type of virus is currently circulating.
The situation occurs amid a serious health crisis in Cuba, where the population reports outbreaks of dengue and other viral diseases that are worsened by the lack of medications, reagents, and medical transportation.
Citizen reports indicate an increase in infections and deaths from diseases transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, while hospitals are facing a collapse due to a lack of basic supplies and insufficient medical personnel to manage the emergency.
The Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) has not made any statements regarding this particular case, although it recently acknowledged the existence of an epidemiological emergency on the island, characterized by a shortage of insecticides, fuel, and resources for spraying.
