The Cuban model Damián Cobas Massó, known for winning the Mr. Cuba 2023 award and renouncing the title for personal reasons, shared with his followers how he is coping with the arrival of Hurricane Melissa, which threatens several areas in the eastern part of the country.
Through a video posted on his social media, the young man from Santiago briefly described the challenges he and his family are facing in preparing for the imminent arrival of the cyclone. He takes on the challenge with relative optimism, and like a true "Míster Cuba," he didn’t lose his smile despite the adversities.
"Well, people ask me how I am, if anything is missing... A lot of things are missing, but right now we have electricity. They’ll leave it on for about three hours or so, which will give us time to charge our phones, the lamps, and make some food," Cobas explained with a tone of resignation.
The model also mentioned that she has not been able to wash or store enough water because the service is interrupted in the city.
"I wanted to wash, but I can't because we still don't have water, and we have to conserve what we have for drinking. I don't even know what to do anymore. Without food, or with very little food, without electricity, without water, and with a storm coming our way. What can I tell you?" she said.
His words reflect the precariousness with which many Cubans face natural phenomena such as hurricanes, amid power outages, food shortages, and the lack of basic services that plague the country.
Damián Cobas, who has continued his modeling career after relinquishing the national title, took the opportunity to express empathy and solidarity with his followers, many of whom are facing the same situation following Melissa's departure.
In the comments, dozens of users wished her strength and protection, while others shared messages of support and denounced the difficult conditions that the population on the island is facing.
